Softball swept by Scots

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Catherine softball dropped a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contests on Sunday hosting the Macalester College Scots at home. The Scots claimed game one 4-2 followed by taking the second game 12-8. The Wildcats are now 12-10 on the season with a MIAC record of 5-3 with seven conference series remaining.

GAME ONE | Macalester 4, St. Kate's 2
The Scots added three runs early in the opening inning of the first game and added their fourth run in the top of the fifth. Senior Alex Ehde's single in the bottom of the fifth put the Wildcats on the board driving home junior Julia Azure. The same duo was responsible for the Wildcats second run in the bottom of the seventh with Ehde reaching first on an error in the outfield to bring in Azure again.

Azure was 2 for 3 in the first game scoring two runs while Ehde was 2 for 4 with two RBI. Junior Alyssa Montero played the complete game in the circle collecting seven strikeouts to remain fourth overall in the MIAC with 66 so far this season.

GAME TWO | Macalester 12, St. Kate's 8
The Scots struck first again in game two taking a four-run lead again in the fourth inning. The Wildcats answered back bringing the inning score to 4-3 Scots. Montero hit her third home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth to give St. Kate's a two-run lead.

Senior Lindsay Burr had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth giving St. Kate's a four-run cushion headed into the seventh. Macalester went on to add eight runs in the top of the seventh and held off St. Kate's in the bottom of the inning for the sweep.

Ehde was 2 for 4 again with three runs while Montero was 3 for 4 with three runs and three RBI. Burr tallied two RBI hitting 3 for 4 with one run and senior Jasmine Ziegler had two RBI.

The Wildcats are on the road Wednesday, April 13 at Carleton College and again Friday, April 15 at Bethel University. They return home on Saturday, April 23 hosting the College of Saint Benedict.
