Softball claims two eight run wins on first day in Florida

LEESBURG, Fla. -- The St. Catherine softball team returned to competition for the first time since February claiming two eight-run wins over the University of Chicago and The College of Wooster on day one of their spring break schedule. With the wins, St. Kate's improves to 6-4 overall. 

GAME ONE | St. Kate's 8, UChicago 3
The Wildcats were down two runs after the first inning before adding three runs to take the lead in the bottom of the second. Both teams were scoreless through the next two innings before St. Kate's added three more in the bottom of the fifth. St. Kate's went on to added their seventh and eighth runs in the bottom of the sixth with UChicago closing out the game with their final run in the top of the seventh. 

Alyssa Montero earned the win in the circle pitching six innings with five strikeouts. Montero also added three runs for St. Kate's going 1 for 4 and Kaitlín Boyles was 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. 

GAME TWO | St. Kate's 8, Wooster 0 (5 innings)
St. Kate's had five players hit doubles plus a triple from Julia Azure in the Wildcats five inning game against Wooster. The game was off to a slow start until Angela Huepfel got things going with a double to center field and starting the six run inning. 

Montero drove Huepfel in with a double to left field and Jasmine Ziegler brought her in with a double to center field. Azure's triple drove Ziegler and Lindsay Burr in for a total of six runs off of six hits in the inning. St. Kate's added two more in the top of the fifth inning for the 8-0 final after five. 

Annabelle Schutte claimed the shutout for St. Kate's facing 19 batters allowing just five hits and zero runs with two strikeouts. 

The Wildcats are back in action on Monday against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 8 and 10:15 am.
