CLERMONT, Fla. -- St. Catherine softball faced a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foes on Monday taking down the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 19-2 before falling to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 10-1. The Wildcats are now 7-5 on the season with four games remaining in Florida.
GAME ONE | St. Catherine 19, UWSP 2 (5 innings)
The Wildcats first game on Monday was short at sweet tallying nine runs after the first inning. The Pointers added their two runs in the bottom of the first inning before St. Kate's added another eight runs in the fourth and closed out the fifth with two final runs.
Senior
Angela Huepfel was 4 for 5 with 5 RBI, two runs and two doubles in the first game. Senior
Alex Ehde was one for one getting walked four times after hitting a triple in the first inning and added four runs plus two RBI. Leadoff hitter
Taylor Brunn was also 4 for 5 while collecting 3 RBI and 3 runs.
Annabelle Schutte pitched three innings allowing 5 hits for 2 runs and walking one. Schutte faced 14 batters and recorded one strikeout.
Erica Pronschinske finished the game facing 8 batters with one hit.
GAME TWO | UWEC 10, St. Catherine 1
St. Kate's struggled at the end of the game against Eau Claire giving up six runs in the final inning of play. The Wildcats were able to hold off the Blugolds allowing just one run until the top of the fourth where they took a 4-0 lead.
The Wildcats added their lone run with two outs in the top of the sixth with
Lindsay Burr bringing Huepfel in from second with a double to center field.
St. Kate's will have Tuesday off before returning to action Wednesday against Williams College and Kalamazoo College.
