WINONA, Minn. -- Junior forward
Laura Denchfield led the St. Catherine hockey team to a 3-1 victory over the Saint Mary's University Cardinals on Saturday in Winona. With the win, the Wildcats snap their losing streak to move to 6-12 overall and 2-10 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
Denchfield struck first with a goal 29 seconds into the second period. Her game winning goal was assisted by junior forward
Marie Reimer off a pass from senior forward
Sophia Gorski.
Denchfield put the Wildcats up 2-0 in the third period with an unassisted goal at 7:27 before junior
Kaitlyn Blair added a short handed goal at 10:24. Blair's goal was assisted by sophomore forward
Madison Fleming.
The Cardinals scored shortly after with a power-play goal 30 seconds later for the 3-1 final.
Kubicek earns the win with 15 saves on the day.
St. Kate's returns to action on Friday, February 11 traveling to Duluth to play the College of St. Scholastica. The Wildcats return home on Saturday, February 12 at 2 pm hosting the Saints.
