DULUTH, Minn. -- The St. Catherine hockey team traveled to Duluth on Friday for game one of the conference series against the College of St. Scholastica Saints. Friday's game is the first time the two teams met as Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponents and for only the third time in program history. The Saints edged out the Wildcats 6-4 coming from behind for the win.
Junior
Laura Denchfield was the first to score in the game with a goal assisted by junior
Kaitlyn Blair just 4 minutes into the first period. Junior
Marie Reimer put the Wildcats up 2-0 with help from first-year
Joslin Mumm and Denchfeild three minutes later.
The Saints scored three straight to take the lead 10 minutes into the second period when Blair knotted the game at 3-3 off a pass from junior
Brittany Weber. Scholastica added two more in five minutes going up 5-3 with nine minutes left in the game.
Sophomore
Abby Pirkl scored the Wildcats fourth and final goal of the game at 13:17 assisted by senior
Sophia Gorski and Mumm.
The Saints added an empty net goal at 18:36 for a final of 6-4.
The two teams will face each other on Saturday at 2 pm at Drake Arena in St. Paul.
