STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team dropped their first non-conference game of the season with a 3-1 decision at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Tuesday evening.
Stevens Point tallied two goals in the first period to hold the advantage until junior
Lauren Henriksen tallied a goal at 15:38 in the third period with help from rookie
Paige Loidolt.
"I think it was just one of those games where it wouldn't go in", said head coach
Brad Marshall. "The amount of chances we had, the procession time and just overall control of the play…it's too bad we couldn't convert on one of our numerous early chances. When you hold a team to less than 10 shots through 40 minutes of play, you should have more to show. But we keep score of goals in this game, not shots."
The Pointers added a final goal with less than ten seconds left on the clock with an empty net opportunity as goaltender
Elizabeth Kubicek was pulled for the extra skater.
Kubicek tallied eight saves in the game while senior
Laura Denchfield led the team with shots on goal registering five.
St. Kate's will face the Pointers again on Saturday, December 10 at 2 pm at Drake Areana for their final contest before the new year.
