ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team remains undefeated at Drake Arena through the end of 2022 with a dominating 5-1 win over the visiting University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers on Saturday. The Wildcats improve to 8-3-1 registering the team's best record through twelve games in program history.
"It was a solid 60 minutes today", said head coach
Brad Marshall. "When you get second tier scoring and have your defense find the score sheet, it's a really good recipe for a win. We're at a good spot after the first half and now we focus on finals, the Holiday break and recharging the batteries."
Maiah Robert scored the team's first goal at 10:49 in the first period with an assist from
Raechel Painovich.
Madi Fleming scored the team's second goal with an assist from
Kaitlyn Blair and
Emmie Verhaagh early in the second period to go up 2-0.
Ten minutes into the third period,
Joslin Mumm added the team's third goal with help from Painovich. Down three, the Pointers pulled their net minder for the extra skater as
Isabel Burt added an unassisted goal with less than four minutes to play.
Lauren Henriksen scored the team's fifth and final goal under two minutes and just nine seconds before Stevens Point scored their lone goal.
Fifth-year goalie,
Elizabeth Kubicek earned the win making 19 saves allowing just one goal.
