Five honored as MIAC All-Conference

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its annual women's soccer awards on Thursday with five from the St. Catherine University soccer team to the list.

22 players were named All-Conference and 15 received honorable mention distinction. All awards were nominated by and voted on by the 12 MIAC head women's soccer coaches; any nominated player not selected as All-Conference but still receiving votes from at least three coaches was named honorable mention.

Eight of the 22 All-Conference selections were also selected in 2021. St. Catherine senior forward Lauren Witte became the 18th player in recorded MIAC history to be named All-Conference four times in women's soccer, while Wildcat teammates Sofia Campbell and Amanda Elton became three-time All-MIAC honorees - a feat achieved by just 58 women's soccer players ever.

To this point in the season, Witte has scored nine goals, four of which were game winners with six assists for 24 points. She is third all-time for goals with 40 in her career at St. Kate's and second all-time for assists (17). She holds two single-season goals records and is guaranteed to join the list one final time at the conclusion of this season. With this year's honor, she becomes the first player in program history to make the MIAC All-Conference team having earned it four times.

In her fifth-year at St. Kate's, Sofia Campbell earns her third All-Conference honor having scored two goals and four assists for eight points as a defensive middle. At this point, Campbell has 19 career goals, ranking eighth all-time and is ranks third all-time just behind Witte with 16 career assists. In addition to this year's honor, she was selected as All-Conference Honorable Mention as a sophomore, making the leagues end of the season honors list four times.

The Wildcats' other three-time selection is Amanda Elton who led the Wildcats this season with 12 goals and three assists for 27 points in 21 games tying for first in the MIAC for goals up until this point. Elton is second all-time for goals (41), first for assists (18), and second all-time for points (100).

Fresh off being selected as the MIAC Playoff Tournament Most Valuable Player, junior goalkeeper, Kate Praetz was named to the All-Conference team for the second time in her career. Praetz led the conference with seven shutouts in 19 games and ranked third for saves making 82 with a save percentage of .837. In the MIAC Playoff Championship against Carleton, Praetz recorded her 19th shutout of her career moving into the top spot in program history tied with Danielle Mendez '17.

New to the MIAC All-Conference team was junior midfielder Ari Green, making it in her first season at St. Kate's after transferring from the University of St. Thomas (NCAA Division I). Green recorded four goals including the game-winner in the Playoff Championship against Carleton and five assists for 13 points.

All five athlete's will look to improve their season statistics as their season continues Saturday, November 12 in the NCAA Championship Tournament First Round game against the Washington University, St. Louis in Waverly, Iowa at 3:30 pm. If the Wildcats win, they will play the winner of Wartburg/Grinnell on Sunday, November 13 in Waverly at 3 pm.
