ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University soccer team defeated the No. 6 seeded Macalester College Scots on Tuesday by a score of 3-1. The win advances the Wildcats, the No. 3 seed, to the semifinals against the College of Saint Benedict. Round two will be played in St. Joseph on Wednesday, November 2 at 2 pm.
Senior Mandy Elton scored the game winner on Tuesday adding her 12th of the season in the 11th minute of play. The Wildcats held onto the one-goal lead for the next 36 minutes of play when fifth-year
Sofia Campbell scored assisted by Elton two minutes into the second half.
The final Wildcat goal was scored by senior
Emily Hinze off a corner kick from
Lauren Witte half way through the second half giving the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.
The Scots lone goal was scored in the 82nd minute off of a penalty kick.
St. Kate's had 12 shots on goal in the contest led by Elton with five. First-year
Briana Henaman had three shots on goal off the bench while Campbell, Witte and junior Kallie Tuominen each added one.
Junior keeper,
Kate Praetz had five saves in the game while allowing the late PK goal.
The Wildcats defeated the Bennies on September 14 at home by a score of 2-1. In that game, junior
Ari Green and Witte were the goal scorers with assists going to Witte and Campbell, respectively.
