Volleyball finishes weekend with 3-1 win over Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team snapped their home losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe, Hamline University on Saturday evening. The win advances the Wildcats overall record to 12-6 with a 3-2 conference resume.

Maggie Rosen led the way again on Saturday with 15 kills and two blocks hitting .355 in the match. Three players were in double figures for digs in the four set match as first-year Tiff Tellez had a match high 19 digs. Marissa Gilbertson tallied her fifth double digs-assits match of the season recording 10 digs and 20 assists to go along with her impressive four service aces. St. Kate's currently leads the MIAC for service aces this season averaging 2.13 per set.

St. Kate's rolled through set one taking an early 12-1 lead. The Pipers inched back after down 20-8 but the Wildcats claimed the set 25-16. Hamline found energy in the second holding the lead for a majority set with St. Kate's trying to come back but just didn't have enough falling 25-19.

The third set was close again until the middle of play and Gilbertson's back to back aces to start the run. The Wildcats went onto claim the set 25-17 to take a 2-1 match lead. The fourth and final set was back and forth with Hamline tying the contest at 13-13. St. Kate's turned it around though going on a five point run to build a cushion before taking the set 25-20.

St. Kate's travels to Gustavus on Wednesday for a 7 pm conference match and will return to Butler Center on Friday, October 21 hosting the College of St. Scholastica.
