ST. PETER, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team fell to the No. 17 ranked Gustavus Adolphus Golden Gusties 3-0 in St. Peter on Wednesday evening dropping to 12-7 overall with a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) record of 3-3.
First-year Tiffany Tellez recorded her second career double-double in the three-set match collecting a match-high 12 kills to go along with her team-best eleven digs while hitting .360.
The Gusties were off to an early lead in the first set with a 9-2 advantage before the Wildcats inched back knotting it at 10-10. Gustavus went on a six point run after that holding St. Kate's and taking the set 25-17.
Set two was back and forth again with the Gusties taking the lead after St. Kate's was off to a 3-1 start. The Wildcats found momentum near the end of the set battling back but fell 25-21.
Down 2-0 in the match, St. Kate's started the third set taking an early lead again. The Wildcats held the lead in the set until 23-20 on the board when Gustavus forced three back to back attack errors from St. Kate's to claim the match.
St. Kate's is on the road Saturday traveling to Arden Hills, Minnesota to face Bethel University at 5 pm.
