ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University volleyball team claimed a huge win on Saturday with a three-set sweep of Bethel University. The win is the first for the Wildcats since the 2010 season and puts them in a four-way tie for third-place in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) with a record of 4-3.
Senior Alison Marso had a career night with a career-high ten kills with a match-best seven blocks, with an attack percentage of .667. Joining Marso in double-digits was junior
Maggie Rosen with ten kills, four blocks and two digs.
Tiff Tellez led defensively collecting 13 digs to go along with her five kills plus two service aces.
"This was a great win for the team and the program", said head coach
Todd Nelson. "I am really proud of how the team played. It was steady, calm and confident."
St. Kate's opened the match taking an early 8-3 lead over the Royals never allowing them to get within more than three points for a 25-16 set win. Bethel was ahead to open the second set before St. Kate's tied it at 9-9. Both teams went back and forth after that until St. Kate's went on an eight-point run to win set two 25-20.
The third and final set was a battle for both teams trading points and the lead with the final tie at 19-19. St. Kate's went on to win the set 25-22 for the three-set sweep.
The Wildcats are home again on Friday, October 21 for a 7 pm match hosting the College of St. Scholastica.
