ST. PAUL, Minn. -- For the third time this season, the St. Catherine University Wildcats fell to the College of Saint Benedict Bennies, 4-3. Mirroring Friday night's loss, the Wildcats made a third period push but were unable to overcome the lead.
Senior
Sophia Gorski was first to score on Saturday knocking one in from
Samantha Lackmann and
Veronica Gruett at 12:08.
The Bennies answered with four consecutive goals within 20 minutes of play time carrying a 4-1 lead into the third and final period. Three of the Bennies goals were results of power-play opportunities.
Gorski struck again at 10:34 in the third from
Lauren Henriksen and
Maiah Robert cutting the lead in half. The Wildcats third and final goal was less than two minutes later with junior
Laura Denchfield getting past the Bennies goalie with help from
Madison Fleming.
Sophomore
Abby Severson claimed the loss playing just under 40 minutes in net allowing four goals and making 23 saves. Senior
Elizabeth Kubicek played the remainder of the game facing eight shots.
St. Kate's will host Saint Mary's University on Friday, February 4 at 7 pm at Drake Arena in St., Paul before traveling to Winona on Saturday for a 2 pm contest.
