SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The St. Catherine hockey team registered their first tie of the season with a 3-3 overtime game at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. St. Kate's is now 5-7-1 overall entering a 23-day break from competition.
Laura Denchfield struck first taking advantage of a power play opportunity one minute and thirteen seconds off the clock. UW-Superior knotted the game at 1-1 half-way through the opening period.
Marie Reimer added her third goal in four games giving St. Kate's the goal advantage from
Lauren Henriksen and
Kaitlyn Blair at the 6:14 mark.
Blair scored the team's first shorthanded goal of the season at 10:54 in the second giving the Wildcats a two-goal cushion.
The Yellowjackets forward Amanda Sergent and the third period proved to be the curse again in game two of the series as Sergent added two late goals to come from behind and force overtime. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the five-minute, 3-on-3 sudden-victory overtime period ending in the tie.
Karly Schmidt was between the pipes on Saturday making a season-best 32 saves.
St. Kate's travels to Arizona in early January for a two-game series at Arizona State University.
