ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University hockey team lost their first game of 2022 falling in overtime to the College of Saint Benedict 4-3. The non-conference loss drops St. Kate's to 5-8-1 this season.
Sophia Gorski notched her seventh goal of the year at 10:53 in the first period with an assist from fellow captain senior
Veronica Gruett.
Abby Pirkl added her fourth of the season just over a minute out of the first intermission from
Madi Schwengler giving St. Kate's the two goal insurance headed into the third a final period.
The Bennies started off their three goal period cutting the Wildcats lead in half at 6:04 off the clock. For the second consecutive game,
Kaitlyn Blair tallied St. Kate's third goal less than a minute after the Bennies tied the game at 2-2. Blair's goal was assisted by
Lindsey Hays with 7:19 remaining.
St. Ben's forced overtime netting their third goal in seven minutes of play at 6:39. The Bennies scored the game-winner on a breakaway at 2:15 in OT.

Elizabeth Kubicek made 43 saves between the pipes for an overall 3-3 record this season.
St. Kate's returns to conference play Friday, January 21 hosting Augsburg at Drake Arena at 7 pm.
