MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - St. Catherine hockey suffered their third straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) loss falling 4-1 to the Augsburg University Auggies at Ed Saugestad Ice Arena. The Wildcats have five games remaining on the regular-season schedule sitting in fifth place along with Bethel University with a MIAC record of 5-8. Overall, St. Catherine is ahead of the Royals with an 8-11 record to their 7-13 resume.
The Auggies scored their first goal at 18:06 in the first period after they were unable to take advantage of the three power-play opportunities in just ten minutes. Augsburg scored again at 2:49 into the second period and took the three-goal lead at 6:14.
Sophia Gorski netted St. Catherine's lone-goal of the game at 14:36 in the second period with help from
Abbie Wetzel-Edstrom and
Veronica Gruett.
St. Catherine was plagued with penalties again in the third period, this time giving up a power-play goal at 2:33 off the clock.
Lexi Muller and
Lindsey Hays led the shot count against Augsburg with three each while
Elizabeth Kubicek faced 34 shots in net.
The Wildcats return to Drake Arena on Saturday with the Auggies at 3 p.m. Following this weekend series, St. Catherine will face Bethel on February 14-15 and close out the regular season with Hamline on February 21-22.
