Danica Cambrice put on a show in Si Melby Hall on the campus of Augsburg University with a game-high 27 points on Wednesday night. The senior guards season-high game wasn't enough though as the Auggies rolled past the Wildcats 72-61. St. Catherine is now 6-8 on the season and 3-6 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), as they approach the midway point of the conference schedule.
After falling to Augsburg by just five points at
Butler Center in November, St. Catherine started out the conference game leading the Auggies 15-13 after the first 10 minutes. Cambrice had 6 six points in the first quarter and six rebounds on her way to the third double-double of her senior campaign. Augsburg picked up the momentum in the second period putting up 19 points to St. Catherine's 11, seven of the Wildcat's points were from Cambrice again while grabbing three boards.
Trailing by just six points at the half, St. Catherine added a game-high 18 points in the third quarter to Augsburg's 23 points. The final ten minutes of play were a battle again with both teams adding 17 to the scoreboard with St. Catherine fall by 11 to the No. 15 ranked Auggies.
Cambrice put together an impressive stat line with a season-high 27 points, the second-highest scoring total of her career. As a sophomore, Cambrice had three games against conference opponents where she scored 30 points, one of which was against Augsburg and is now just 11 points shy of the 1,000 point mark. Cambrice had 12 rebounds against the Auggies shooting a perfect 9-9 from the line. She also led the team in assists with five and blocks with three.
Rookie
Bree Glynn was behind Cambrice in the scoring column adding ten points with four assists, and four rebounds. The first-year starter leads all newcomers on the team this season averaging 7.1 and is fourth overall on the team in her debut season.
St. Catherine is on the road again on Saturday as they travel to Carleton College in Northfield for a 3 pm MIAC contest. The Knights are 2-7 against conference opponents and 5-9 overall.
