REDLANDS, Calif. - The St. Catherine basketball team started the 2019-20 season with a 58-42 win over Chapman University as part of the Redlands Tip-Off Classic on Friday evening in Redlands, California.
Sophomore
Sam Orth led the Wildcats in the season opener recording 16 points with eight rebounds. Senior
Danica Cambrice finished with 11 points and five boards while sophomore
Katie Benjamin added eight points and six rebounds. Rookie
Cierra Ahlf made her collegiate debut with seven points and grabbing nine boards. Senior
Jackie Radford led the team under the basket with a career-best 13 defensive rebounds for a total of 16.
The Wildcats were off to a slow start scoring just four points in the first quarter trailing the Panthers by one. St. Catherine took the lead in the second quarter at 10-9 as the result of a good layup from Orth. The Wildcats put up 15 points total to end the half with a three-point lead at 19-16.
St. Catherine held 37-27 lead after the third quarter behind nine points overall from Orth and eight overall from Cambrice. The Wildcats' shot 70 percent in the third quarter adding 18 points as a team.
The Wildcats continued to roll in the fourth quarter with 21 points total carrying the lead to 16 points. Orth added another seven points followed by Benjamin and rookie
Bree Glynn with four each in the final quarter.
St. Catherine plays again on Saturday at 6 pm CST against the tournament hosts the University of Redlands.
