REDLANDS, Calif. - On Saturday evening, the St. Catherine University basketball team fell to the University of Redlands Bulldogs 53-50 on the second day of the Redlands Tip-Off Classic in Southern California.
The Bulldogs came out of the gate hot, connecting on 50 percent of shots from the floor taking a demanding lead of 15-5 heading into the second quarter.
St. Catherine found momentum in the second quarter adding 14 points finishing the half trailing by 12 at the end of the half. The Wildcats shot 62.5 percent and went 3 for 4 from the free-throw line in the second quarter
The Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs in the final two-quarters grabbing ten points overall off of second-chance efforts. In the final ten minutes of the contest, St. Catherine battled back from a ten-point deficit and tied the game at 50-50 behind a good three-pointer from senior
Jackie Radford with 18-seconds remaining. Coming out of a time-out, the Bulldogs had possession and secured the win making a three-pointer with six seconds on the clock.
Radford led the team with 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Sophomore
Sam Orth added 10 points for St. Catherine with six rebounds while
Katie Benjamin added 9 points plus two rebounds.
St. Catherine connected 63 percent from the free-throw line overall against the Bulldogs hitting 32 percent from the floor.
The Wildcats return home on Saturday, November 16 at 3 pm hosting the University of Northwestern-St. Paul at
Butler Center.
