Hockey drops MIAC game at Saint Mary's 3-1

WINONA, Minn. - St. Catherine traveled to Winona for game one of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series against the Saint Mary's University Cardinals. The Cardinals topped the Wildcats 3-1 on Friday evening to lead the series 1-0. 

The Cardinals were on the board first in the game scoring while on the power play attack at 14:30 into the first period. Saint Mary's scored again at 11:14 into the second period taking a two-goal lead after 40 minutes on the ice. 

Junior Emilee Anderson found the back of the Cardinals net at 1:27 cutting the deficient to one early in the third period. The late game effort wasn't enough as Anderson's goal would go on to be the lone goal from the purple and gold. Saint Mary's scored their third and final goal with less than 8 minutes remaining in the game for the win. 

Sophomore Karly Schmidt was between the Pipes for St. Catherine collecting the loss. Schmidt faced 27 shots total making 24 saves.
