Denchfield leads Wildcats to 4-1 victory over Saint Mary's

ST. PAUL, Minn. - First-year Laura Denchfield led St. Catherine to a 4-1 victory over Saint Mary's University on Saturday afternoon at Drake Arena. After dropping the first game of the series in Winona on Friday evening, St. Catherine claimed their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory of the 2019-20 season.

Denchfield added three-points including the game-winner against the Cardinals scoring the Wildcats second and fourth goals plus an assist on goal three. The rookie forward is tied for second on the team so far this season with six points total with fellow rookie, Nicole Maddox

The Cardinals were on the board first again in the second game of the series at 6:14 in the first period. Shortly following, the Wildcats held the Cardinals off to a scoreless five-minute man advantage in the middle of the first period.

Rookie Marie Reimer scored the Wildcats first goal and her second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 at 12:01 in the second period.

Denchfield's first goal of the game was assisted by sophomore Sophia Gorski at 14:19 in the second period taking the 2-1 lead.

Junior Emilee Anderson scored her sixth goal of the season at 6:33 in the third period assisted by Denchfield for the 3-1 lead and 13 minutes remaining. Anderson is tied for second in the MIAC with nine points this season and tied in the No. 1 spot for goals in the conference.

The Cardinals pulled their goalie at 18:41 in the third for the sixth skater just prior to St. Catherine getting called for an interference penalty at 19:11. Two skaters down, Denchfield found the back of the net to claim the 4-1 victory.

Junior Bryce Boreen was between the pipes for St. Catherine facing 24 shots and allowing one goal for the win.

St. Catherine is back on the ice in St. Paul facing the College of Saint Benedict Bennies at Drake Arena on Saturday, December 7 at 1:30 pm.
