Volleyball goes 1-1 on first day at Northland College Tournament

ASHLAND, Wis. – The now 2-1, 0-0 MIAC, St. Catherine University Wildcat volleyball team split wins on the first day of the two day tournament. The Wildcats opened the day against Rockford University going 3-0 over the Regents. The second match of the afternoon was against Concordia University, Chicago resulting in a tough loss in five sets.

St. Kate's vs. Rockford University | W 3-0 | 25-18, 25-10, 25-10
The Wildcats first match of the tournament was a 3-0 win against Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) non-conference opponent Rockford University. Middle hitters Mackenzie Peper and Erin Cutts are quiet the duo from Osceola, Wis, as proved they are a strong force together at the net leading the team with 16 total kills together. Cutts led the team collecting 9 with Peper adding 7 herself to the team total of 35. Also vital in the first match was first-year libero Grace Amacher with 7 digs and 1 kill and sophomore setter Brooke Beuning with 16 assists.

It was a strong start again for the Wildcats in their second match of the tournament that ultimately resulted in a 2-3 loss in five sets. The Wildcats won the first two sets over the Concordia University, Chicago Cougars on Friday afternoon in Ashland, Wis. They dropped the third set to the Cougars in a battle that ended up going 26-28 and after that were defeated in the last two sets. Match leaders were Emma Nelson with 16 digs, 13 kills, 2 blocks and 1 ace. Lauren Isaacson had 8 kills and 2 blocks with Cutts adding 6 kills and 4 aces. Amacher collected 23 digs in the match playing all 5 sets and leading the team in assists was setter Megan Schwarzrock with 16. 
 
The team plays again Saturday at 4 p.m. on the final day of the Northland College Tournament. They face NAIA opponent Silver Lake College from Wisconsin. Following that the Wildcats face Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) member Northland College at 6 p.m. That match will be streamed on the Northland College website found here:
