ST. PAUL, Minn. - To honor those effected by Pedicatric Cancer and build awareness towards the cause, the Saint Mary's University Cardinal women's soccer team has designated the 1 p.m. Saturday, September 30 game against St. Kate's as the Pediatric Cancer Awareness Game. The national day of recognition for the eighth consecutive year was Friday, September 29. The Go4TheGoal organization encourages soccer programs across all divisions of the NCAA to participate by wearing gold. The Go4TheGoal organizations mission is to help children with pediatric cancer achieve their dreams. The Wildcats and Cardinals will be wearing gold laces in the game as their way to show support.
After a scoreless double overtime at home on Wednesday against Carleton, the Wildcats head to Winona Saturday for a 1 p.m. game. The Wildcats are now 3-2-2 and 1-1-2 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). The Cardinals are 5-4 overall with all 4 of their losses to MIAC opponents leaving them 0-4 in the conference. Saint Mary's dropped games to Augsburg and Bethel in the last week and beat UW-River Falls just over a week ago.
When Saint Mary's came to St. Paul last year, St. Kate's topped them 3-1 with goals from
Shannon Hickey and now junior
Allie Bird (Maple Grove, Minn.) The Cardinals also scored the second goal of the game on themselves. Tomorrow's game marks the half way point for the Wildcats season entering the game in 7th place. The game will be streamed live with live stats provided on the Cardinals stretch internet page here:
