ST. PAUL, Minn. - It was like deja vu at Drake Arena on Saturday afternoon in game two of the series against the Cobbers of Concordia College - Moorhead. The St. Catherine University Wildcats are now 2-3-0 and 0-2-0 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), with today's final 4-3 Cobbers in overtime.
Concordia was on the board first again with the Wildcats trailing by one for nearly five minutes when sophomore forward
Emilee Anderson (Chanhassen, Minn.) tied it up from junior center
Lexi Muller (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./ Simley) on a power play.
The Wildcats took the lead at 13:59 on the clock as sophomore forward
Ashlyn Rakos (Waconia, Minn. / Holy Family) scored her first goal of the season assisted by senior defenseman
MacKenzie Ess (Burnsville, Minn. / Apple Valley) and
Tori Thompson (Rochester, Minn. / John Marshall).
Concordia took advantage of the player advantage in the second period after St. Kate's drew a penally 19 seconds into the period tying the game at 2-2. The Cobbers scored another powerplay goal with 3:32 remaining in the period to take the one goal lead over the Wildcats.
Picking up her second goal of the game and fifth on the season, Anderson put one past the Cobbers first-year goalie on a pass from first-year defenseman
Abbie Wetzel-Edstrom (West St. Paul, Minn. / Henry Sibley) with 8:24 remaining in the period.
Finishing regulation tied at 3-3, the two teams were forced to overtime again in game two. With just four seconds on the clock in the first OT, the Cobbers scored on a delayed penalty goal for the win.
St. Kate's is home again next Friday, November 16 when they take on conference foe the University of St. Thomas at 7:30 PM at Drake Arena.
