ST. PAUL - The Wildcat volleyball team picked up their second straight win and second Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) win with a sweep of the Pipers of Hamline University advancing their overall record to 13-11 and 2-7 (MIAC).
St. Catherine had an impressive match hitting .339 in the straight set win on the road at Hamline led by multiple players in double digit figures in the box score.
Hamline was out to an quick 5-1 lead in the first set holding it until sophomore setter
Brooke Beuning (New London, Minn. / New London-Spicer) tied the match at 10 from the service line and took the 13-10 lead. Trading the lead on both sides of the net, the final set score was forced to 27-25.
The second set started out similar to the first trading points when junior setter
Meagan Schwarzrock (Hutchinson, Minn. / Valley City State) fired off five straight service aces and seven total in the set earning a 16-4 lead. The Wildcats finished set two over the Pipers 25-9 and take the 2-0 lead headed into set three.
Schwarzrock was key in the final set again for the Wildcats picking up two additional service aces on the Pipers and serving the team to a 13-4 lead. With their overall best hitting percentage of the match the Wildcats hit .350 to take the final set 25-21.
Leading the Wildcats in the straight set win was junior outside hitter
Emma Nelson (Byron, Minn.) with 13 kills and 10 digs and Schwarzrock had 15 assists, 9 aces and 4 digs. Other match leaders for the Wildcats was sophomore middle hitter
Erin Cutts (Osceola, Wis. / South Dakota State University) with 11 kills, 4 blocks while hitting . 579 and first-year libero
Grace Amacher (Faribault, Minn.) with 23 digs.
St. Kate's returns home for their final match in
Butler Center of the regular season with a 7 p.m. MIAC matchup against Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday, October 24.
