Results

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The St. Catherine University tennis team seems to have found its stride at just the right time. After earning a huge dual match win over St. Olaf College Friday night, the Wildcats secured their second straight win over a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponent Saturday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over Hamline University.

St. Kate's got off to an outstanding start in doubles play by sweeping Hamline in dominating fashion. Alicia Knoll (Waseca, Minn. / Waseca) and Bri Dorr (Princeton, Minn. / Princeton) got things started with an 8-1 win at the No. 1 spot, and both the Wildcats No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams earned 8-0 victories, giving St. Kate's a 3-0 lead in the dual.

The Wildcats were just as strong in singles play as they were in doubles, as they won all six matches without dropping a set. Julia Sporer (Rogers, Minn. / Rogers) was impressive, as she won her singles match without dropping a game. St. Kate's No. 4 singles player defeated the Pipers Emily Wollmuth 6-0, 6-0 to extend the Wildcats lead to 4-0 in the match.

Dorr and junior Jessica Duda (St. Michael, Minn. / St. Micahel-Albertville) both earned 6-0, 6-1 victories at their respective spots, while Alisha Weidmeier (Rapid City, S.D. / Stevens) and Leah Obert (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Simley) both earned 6-0, 6-1 straight set victories.

Knoll's success in doubles play also carried over to singles, as the lone senior for St. Kate's defeated Jordan Danielson in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.

With the win, the Wildcats overall record improves to 4-4 and their record in MIAC play now stands at 3-2. St. Kate's will take on the College of Saint Benedict at 6:30 p.m. on March 18 to kick off spring break.
