ST. PAUL, MINN. – After a 2-2 draw in its opening Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) game, the St. Catherine University soccer team is still looking for its first conference win of the 2016 season. Fortunately, they will have another crack at it this weekend, as the Wildcats hit the road for a 1 p.m. conference game against crosstown rival the Hamline University Pipers.
There is more at stake for both St. Kate's and Hamline in this weekend's game than just a MIAC win. Both teams enter the weekend without any losses. The Pipers hold a 5-0-0 record and are 1-0-0 in MIAC play, while the Wildcats are 3-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the MIAC.
With plenty of action to look forward too, here are the five facts to know before Saturday afternoon:
110 – The number of minutes St. Kate's and Carleton played in Tuesday's 2-2 draw. With the score tied 2-2 at the end of regulation, the Wildcats and Knights needed a 10 minute overtime to determine a victor. However, when that wasn't enough, another 10 minute overtime period was played before the final score was determined.
1st – Both
Allie Boucher (Stillwater, Minn. / Stillwater) and Anna Pederson (Stillwater, Minn. / Stillwater) scored their first goals of the season in the game against Carleton. Boucher scored St. Kate's first goal of the game at 41:27 in the first half, while Pedersen scored the second in the first minute of the second half.
3rd – Senior forward
Hannah Okerstrom (Bayport, Minn. / Stillwater) is tied for third in the MIAC in points with 10 to her name. Okerstrom has tallied at least one assist or goal in every game this season, including the Wildcats 2-2 draw with Carleton on Tuesday, when she assisted on Pedersen's second half goal.
4 – St. Kate's scored four goals en route to a 4-2 win over Hamline last season. The Wildcats scored three first goals in the first half to take a 3-1 lead over the Pipers in the first 45 minutes of regulation and scored an insurance goal in the 73
rd minute of the second half. Okerstrom recorded her first hat trick of the season, scoring three of St. Kate's four goals.
3 – Hamline scored three goals in its MIAC opener against Concordia-Morehead. The Pipers are 5-0 overall with a 1-0 record in MIAC play.
Kickoff between the Wildcats and Pipers is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
