ST. PAUL, MINN. – The St. Catherine University soccer team hit a bit of a road bump this past Saturday. After beating Macalester College for just the second time in program history last Saturday, the Wildcats suffered their first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) loss of the season 3-1 at the hands of Saint Ben's.
St. Kate's looks to rebound this afternoon as it takes on the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 4 p.m. at St. Kate's Field. The game against the Yellow Jackets will be the Wildcats last nonconference game of the season, as they are set to face MIAC opponents the rest of the way.
Live stats will be available during the game and score updates will be made on Twitter (@stkateswildcats).
As always, here are the five things to know before this afternoon's 4 p.m. kickoff:
3 – St. Kate's scored three goals in two games last week, and all three of them were scored by senior forward
Hannah Okerstrom (Bayport, Minn. / Stillwater). Okerstrom scored both goals, including the game winner with two minutes remaining in 2OT, in the Wildcats 2-1 double overtime win over Macalester last Wednesday and scored St. Kate's lone goal in the loss to Saint Ben's.
7 – Last season, the Wildcats opened their 2015 season with a 7-0 road win over UW-Superior. Okerstrom and Ana Pederson (Stillwater, Minn. / Stillwater) both scored two goals in the game while
Kelly Molitor (Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville South) and St. Kate's alumna
Elly Leyva and
Ellen Kokes scored their first goals of the season.
0 – St. Kate's is currently undefeated at home, with a near perfect 3-0-1 record. The only blemish on the Wildcats home record: a 2-2 2OT draw with Carleton from early September.
9 –
Julia Zyla (Inver Grove Heights, Minn. / Trinity) and
Shannon Hickey (Eden Prairie, Minn. / Visitation) are the only two players to have started all nine games St. Kate's has played this season.
2 – Yellow Jacket Sarah Fjeran (Duluth, Minn./Marshall School) was named Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) player of the week after helping Superior earn its first win of the season. Fjeran scored two of the Yellow Jackets five goals in the game to earn the honor for the first time in her career.
