Box Score After narrowly defeating Simpson College on the road in overtime Wednesday, the St. Catherine University soccer team hoped it could return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play and make a sttement against Hamline University.
Unfortunately, the inexperienced Wildcats couldn't hold on to their first-half lead as the Pipers scored two goals in the final 45 minutes to take the win 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Hamline in St. Paul.
"We played well and overall I am happy with where we are," said Head Coach
Chris Citowicki. "We are such a young team and still have some maturing to do. It was great to go up 1-0, but credit goes to Hamline for their comeback. They're a great team."
Despite going up in the first half, the Wildcats managed just three shots on goal and allowed the Pipers an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
At the 37-minute mark, junior
Nina Bukowski (Two Harbors, Minn.) showed her experience as she buried a rebound off a
Julia Zyla (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) shot to give the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage heading into intermission.
However, the Wildcats couldn't hold off the Pipers' Eden Behrens as she scored twice in the second half to hand the Wildcats their fourth loss of the season.
Wildcat goalkeeper
Danielle Mendez (Bloomington, Minn.) recorded four saves in the win. WIth her goal, Bukowski is now second on the team in goals (3) and points (7), while Zyla moves into fourth with three points.
The Wildcats fall to 0-2 in MIAC play and 4-4 on the season. Carleton College will travel to play the Wildcats at home Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
