Heading into its final game of the 2012-13 season, the St. Catherine University basketball team faced a tough task of closing the year against a talented University of St. Thomas squad at home.
The young Wildcats gave the experienced Tommies everything they had but came up short-handed in a 79-42 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) loss Saturday afternoon at the
Butler Center.
The Tommies took the opening points of the game and never-looked back en route to victory as four players scored in double-digits to take down the Wildcats.
Despite a difficult first half shooting, the Wildcats recovered in the second half and shot 52 percent to gain a little momentum to end the game on a high note.
Sarina Baker (Plymouth, Minn.) had one of her best performances of the season as she shot 50 percent from the floor and scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Wildcats.
First-year
Cynthia Cowan (Elgin, Texas) scored eight points and was 4-of-7, while
Kristen Lee (Dawson, Minn.) led the team with seven rebounds and chipped in eight points. The junior guard also led the Wildcats with two assists and three steals.
Taylor Young – one of the league's top players – scored 16 points and pulled in nine rebounds to lead the Tommies in both categories, while Jenna Dockter – the MIAC's most accurate shooter – was 6-for-7 and scored 14 points.
The Wildcats finish the season 1-21 in the MIAC and 2-23 overall in their first season under Head Coach
