After suffering a tough loss in a close game to the College of Saint Benedict Saturday, the St. Catherine University basketball team looked to rebound against an inconsistent Hamline University squad just two days later.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, the Pipers used five first-half 3-pointers to build a lead and hand St. Catherine a 70-48 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) loss, Monday night at Hutton Arena in St. Paul.

Steph Pilgrim and Jordan Sammons combined for 31 points in the game's first twenty minutes to give the Pipers a 35-15 lead heading into the break.

Despite battling back to score 33 points in the second half, the Wildcats couldn't overcome and the Pipers' 50-percent shooting from 3-point range which put a comeback out of reach.

Sarina Baker (Plymouth, Minn.) fueled the Wildcats in the final twenty minutes with 12 points. The sophomore finished the night with a team-high 14 points and 50 percent shooting, while also adding three steals and two assists.

Junior Kristen Lee (Dawson, Minn.) went 2-for-4 from behind the arc and knocked down 12 points – her best statistical shooting performance since the Wildcats' win against Stephens College in November.

The Wildcats also relied on the consistent play of Sarah Mong (Page, Ariz.) who turned in her third double-digit scoring night since returning from the holiday break. The sophomore had 10 points, a team-high four assists and three steals.

Cynthia Cowan (Elgin, Texas) lead the Wildcats with eight boards, while newcomer Shauna Horsch (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) pulled in seven.

The Wildcats fall to 0-8 in MIAC play, but return to action in just two days time against a Bethel University squad that is also searching for its first conference victory. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., in Arden Hills, Minn.
