With just four Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) matches left for the St. Catherine University volleyball team, every match has implications on earning a coveted MIAC playoff spot.

Heading into Wednesday evening's match against St. Olaf College, the Wildcats knew they would have to give everything they had to pull off a win and keep those chances alive. Unfortunately, the Wildcats couldn't manage to pull of a win as the Oles handed them a 3-1 setback in Northfield, Minn.

After dropping the first set by a close score of 25-22, the Wildcats stormed back to take the second set 25-19 and even the match at one set a piece. Despite using eight-straight points to come back from a 9-3 deficit in the third set, the Wildcats lost momentum as St. Olaf took the third set 25-19 and the fourth 25-18 to hand the Wildcats their fourth-straight loss.

Senior Stephanie Meschke (Faribault, Minn.) led the Wildcat offense with 13 kills. Brittni Wangerin (Prior Lake, Minn.) followed right behind with 10 kills, which puts her just 15 kills away from the elusive 1,000-career-kills mark. She also chipped in 17 digs on the night to help the Wildcats defensively.

Middle blocker Marie O'Neil (St. Michael, Minn.) had a strong night all-around as she led the team with a .231 attacking percentage and recorded nine kills, three block assists and one ace.

Setter Ashley Kahlow (LeSueur, Minn.) had a team-high three aces in the match, while also setting up her teammates 24 times for points. Jordyn Wentland (Blaine, Minn.), who surpassed 1,000 assists last weekend, also had a strong evening as she contributed 18 assists and nine digs.

With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 13-15 on the season and 3-5 in conference play. The Wildcats play the remainder of their MIAC schedule at home, beginning Friday at 7 p.m., against Bethel University in a must-win match for both teams.

Friday's match will play host to Dig Pink Night, as fans are encouraged to wear pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. Donations will be accepted at the door to support breast cancer research.
