After several away games in a row and some tough defeats, the Wildcat soccer team returned to their home field on Wednesday afternoon hoping to put home field advantage to good use. On a beautiful late fall day, plenty of fans came out to cheer on their team, and they were even spurred on by the dance team perfoming at halftime. Unfortunately, the support wasn't enough to help lift the Wildcats past a talented Macalester team. The Scots Maggie Molter had a hat trick to pace them to a 4-0 victory.
Play started with both teams getting offensive opportunties and shots on goal. The Scots held a slight advantage in shots in the first half, 8-6, and led 2-0 going into the break on two goals by Molter in the last ten minutes of the period. The Wildcats played tough and with several chances of their own, looked to be still in the game heading into the second half.
In the second period, Macalester's depth began to pay dividends, and a tiring Wildcat team could not quite keep up. The Scots tallied 16 shots, while St. Kate's had 5. Goalie
Abbey Hinton and the Wildcat defense were kept quite busy. Hinton had eight saves, and
Kristi Thorwick stepped up to stop a sure goal off a rebound.
The Wildcats play at home on Saturday against St. Ben's at 1 pm. Saturday is Parent's Day.
