In their last non-conference games in California before coming home to Minnesota, the Wildcat softball team split a double-header with Menlo College Thursday afternoon. St. Kate's took the first game 7-3 but lost the second game 5-0.
The Wildcats held a 3-2 lead going into the top of the 6th inning in game one. With the bases loaded, Regan Kreichbaum singled to left, scoring Katie Allen and Kayla Bergerson. The next batter, Ann Schmitz, doubled to right-center bringing home Beth Freier. Jenna Clark then singled to left to score Kreichbaum and give St. Kate's a 4-run inning. Menlo was able to get one run in the bottom of the 6th, but was held scoreless in the 7th inning as the Wildcats recorded the 7-3 win.
Kreichbaum finished the game with 2 hits, 2 runs, and 2 RBIs. Heidi Sande recorded 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Bergerson pitched all 7 innings, giving up just 6 hits and 3 runs.
Game two did not go St. Kate's way, as costly errors turned into runs for Menlo. The Oaks scored 3 runs in the 5th inning to go up 5-0, while holding the Wildcats scoreless the entire game.
St, Kate's plays their first home and conference game on Tuesday, April 6th, hosting a double-header against Augsburg at 4:00 p.m.
