Softball drops MIAC pair to Gustavus

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team dropped a pair of MIAC games to the Gustavus Adolphus College Golden Gusties at St. Kate's Field. The pair of losses puts St. Kate's at 21-17 with a conference record of 10-10.

GAME ONE | Gustavus 5, St. Catherine 1
The Wildcats struck first, plating a run in the opening inning behind a strong swing from Mayci Larson, who finished 2-for-3 with a double and the team's lone RBI. Grace Swigart also added a double as St. Catherine totaled five hits on the afternoon.

St. Catherine held Gustavus scoreless through five innings, but a five-run sixth inning by the Gusties turned the game. The Wildcats recorded 21 putouts defensively but were hurt by three errors as Gustavus pulled away late.

GAME TWO | Gustavus 2, St. Catherine 1
The second game followed a similar script, with St. Catherine again held to a single run in a 2–1 loss. The Wildcats' offense was led by Alexa Carlstrom, who delivered a solo home run and accounted for the team's only run. Grace Swigart added a double, while Faith Bonse and Mayci Larson each contributed a hit as St. Catherine finished with five hits overall.

In the circle, Morgan Wilson went the distance, allowing just two runs on four hits while keeping Gustavus in check throughout. The Wildcats' pitching staff combined to limit damage, but early runs by the Gusties proved enough to hold on for the win.

St. Catherine battled in both games but couldn't find the timely offense needed to overcome Gustavus, dropping both contests by a combined three runs.
