On a cloudy Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats were left with a gloomy feeling after losing a closely contested game to St. Olaf, 2-1 in overtime. The Wildcats played tough against the third ranked team in the conference, but left with nothing to show for it after St. Olaf scored two minutes into overtime. The Wildcats are now 6-9-1 overall, 2-7-0 in MIAC play. The Oles are 12-4, 6-3 against MIAC opponents.
The Wildcats came into the game believing they could knock off the Oles, and appeared in position to do so after regulation. The Wildcat defense did a commendable job against the offensive onslaught of the Oles, allowing only one goal in regulation on 18 Ole shots. Although the well organized attack of St. Olaf kept up the pace, the Wildcats' remained stout and kept clearing the ball out.
Katie Eckman provided the offense for the Wildcats on a day when shots were in short supply, knocking in a goal from assists by
Kelsey Nistler and
Kristi Thorwick. The 1-1 score remained until the end of regulation. Just two minutes into overtime, luck finally ran out on the Wildcats, as Susie Jelinek scored to lift the Oles to victory. The Wildcats left the field knowing they had played well but with another tick in the loss column.
