Wildcats score four second-half goals in 5-1 victory over UW-Stout

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Catherine University women's soccer team delivered an impressive offensive performance Sunday afternoon, September 27, scoring four second-half goals to secure a 5-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout at St. Kate's Field.

Elyse Snortum led the Wildcats with two goals, including the game-winner, while Katie McGrath recorded a goal and two assists to finish with four points.

UW-Stout opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Tessa Pagel found the back of the net to give the Blue Devils an early 1-0 advantage. The Wildcats responded in the 16th minute as Ali Owens scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Emily Olson, leveling the match at 1-1. Neither team found another goal before halftime.

St. Kate's wasted little time taking control in the second half. Just 1:22 after the break, Snortum scored off an assist from McGrath to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. The duo connected again in the 59th minute, with Snortum recording her second goal of the afternoon to extend the advantage to 3-1.

McGrath continued the offensive surge just three minutes later, scoring an unassisted goal in the 62nd minute to push the Wildcats' lead to 4-1. Natalie Barnes capped off the scoring in the 85th minute, finding the back of the net off an assist from Emma Boys to secure the 5-1 victory.

Snortum finished with two goals on three shots, placing all three attempts on target. McGrath matched her four-point performance with a goal and two assists, while Owens and Barnes each contributed a goal.

The Wildcats outshot UW-Stout 12-5 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. St. Kate's placed eight shots on goal compared to three for the Blue Devils.

In goal, Brianna Valdez played all 90 minutes for the Wildcats, recording two saves while allowing just one goal.
