Wildcats split MIAC doubleheader at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team split wins with Macalester College on Saturday afternoon powering through game one 13-3 before dropping the second game of the MIAC doubleheader 7-3. The Wildcats are now 21-12 with an MIAC record of 10-5.

Game One: St. Catherine 13, Macalester 3
St. Catherine's offense came alive in a big way, erupting for 13 runs on 11 hits to take control of the opener.

The Wildcats set the tone early with a run in the first and kept applying pressure throughout, highlighted by a six-run seventh inning that broke the game open.

Faith Bonse led the charge at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Her extra-base power helped fuel multiple scoring innings and gave St. Kate's consistent momentum.

Grace Swigart added to the offensive output with a double and two RBIs, delivering in key situations with runners on base. Helen McKinnon contributed two hits and an RBI at the top of the lineup, while Mayci Larson scored twice, reached base multiple times, and added a stolen base.

St. Kate's also received contributions throughout the lineup, including an RBI pinch-hit from Shylah Brogan, and multi-run production from Annie Cook, who scored twice and reached base at a high clip.

In the circle, Alexa Carlstrom controlled the game, allowing just three runs while working efficiently through seven innings for her 9th win of the season.

Game Two: Macalester 7, St. Catherine 3
St. Catherine stayed competitive throughout the second game but ultimately came up short in a 7–3 loss.

The Wildcats struck early with a run in the first inning and continued to chip away, adding runs in the fourth and sixth to stay within reach.

McKinnon once again sparked the offense, going 1-for-3 with an RBI, scoring a run, and swiping two bases. Her ability to get on and create pressure was a consistent factor.

G. Swigart drove in a run with a key hit, while Lexi Drasher provided a boost off the bench with a pinch-hit double and a run scored. Larson added a hit and set the tone early in the lineup.

St. Kate's will travel to St. Joseph on Sunday facing the Bennies in a MIAC doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
