Wildcats drop MIAC doubleheader to Bennies

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team battle through a pair of MIAC contests on Sunday dropping both games to the College of Saint Benedict on the road. The losses dropped St. Kate's to 21-14 with a conference record of 10-7.

Game One: Saint Benedict 4, St. Catherine 1
St. Catherine scratched across its lone run in the third inning, manufacturing offense in a tight, low-scoring game.

Alexa Carlstrom led the way offensively, going 1-for-3 with a double and scoring the Wildcats' only run. In the circle, Carlstrom also delivered a complete-game effort, working all six innings while striking out three.

Annie Cook and Grace Swigart each added a hit as part of St. Catherine's three-hit performance. Mayci Larson drove in the Wildcats' run, capitalizing on a scoring opportunity despite not recording a hit.

Defensively, St. Catherine was steady, highlighted by clean work from Faith Bonse at first base and solid middle infield play from Cook and Chance Colbert.

Game Two: Saint Benedict 12, St. Catherine 4 (6 innings)
The Wildcats showed more offensive production in game two, scoring four runs on four hits and drawing seven walks.

Grace Swigart paced the lineup with a strong 2-for-3 performance, consistently putting pressure on the defense. Bonse delivered a key RBI hit and reached base twice, while Mayci Larson and Alexa Carlstrom each contributed an RBI.

St. Kate's patience at the plate was evident, with Kylee Kohout drawing two walks and scoring a run, and Annie Cook also reaching base and crossing the plate.

In the field, Carlstrom added a solid defensive showing in left, recording three putouts and an assist.

St. Catherine will head to Northfield to resume the suspended game at St. Olaf on Wednesday, April 29 before returning home Friday to host Gustavus Adolphus.
