ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University softball team split MIAC games with the visiting Concordia College Cobbers on Wednesday, taking game one 9-1 in 6 innings before falling 6-2. The split puts St. Kate's at 20-11 with a 9-4 conference record.Â
Game One | St. Catherine 9, Concordia-Moorhead 1 (6 innings)
St. Catherine's offense erupted for 15 hits, scoring in three different innings to take control early and never look back.
Mayci Larson led the way from the top of the lineup, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, three runs scored, and a stolen base. Faith Bonse delivered a big swing in the middle of the order, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, a walk, and two stolen bases.
Helen McKinnon set the tone early, going 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. Maren Ceynowa added an RBI and reached base twice, while Ann Swigart contributed a hit.
In the circle, Taylor Graf held the visitors to just one run, controlling the game from start to finish, striking out five batters.Â
Game Two | Concordia-Moorhead 6, St. Catherine 2
The Wildcats dropped game two of the doubleheader despite battling throughout. The Cobbers added a two-run homer in the opening inning and added two more in the top of the fifth.Â
St. Kate's broke through in the bottom of the fifth with Lexi Drasher driving in Chance Colbert and putting Grace Swigart into scoring position. McKinnon's hit up the middle brought in G. Swigart to cut the deficit in half. The late surge wasn't enough, though; the Cobbers went on to add two more for the 6-2 final.Â
St. Kate's return to action on Saturday with a MIAC doubleheader at Macalester and travel to Saint Benedict on Sunday.Â
