WINONA, Minn. — The St. Catherine University softball team dropped both ends of a MIAC doubleheader at Saint Mary's on Sunday, falling in game one before coming up short in a low-scoring game two. St. Catherine falls to 17-10 overall and 6-3 in the MIAC.
Game 1 – Saint Mary's 11, St. Catherine 3
The Wildcats came out swinging, plating three runs in the top of the first inning to grab an early lead.
Helen McKinnon and Mayci Larson helped set the tone at the top of the lineup, while Faith Bonse and Maren Ceynowa each drove in runs as part of a seven-hit effort. Larson led the way offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Game 2 – Saint Mary's 5, St. Catherine 1
The Wildcats again struck early, this time on a solo home run from Bonse in the first inning. That would be the lone highlight offensively, as St. Kate's was limited to just one hit in the game.
Saint Mary's gradually built its lead and capitalized on scoring opportunities late to secure the sweep, despite a clean defensive effort from the Wildcats.
St. Kate's returns to action on Tuesday hosting Augsburg University in a 3:30 pm doubleheader and again Wednesday taking on Concordia College for another 3:30 pm MIAC doubleheader at home.
