ST. PAUL, Minn. — St. Catherine University fell 7-0 to No. 18 Gustavus Adolphus College in MIAC match Sunday at St. Kate's Courts. St. Kate's moved to 12-5 overall with an MIAC record of 5-3.
The Gusties set the tone early by sweeping doubles play. At No. 1, Karina Elvestrom and Kaya De Bruijn defeated Faith Simon and Ashley King, 6-0. Gustavus added a win at No. 2 doubles as Molly Austin and Lanie Davis topped Ryanna Steinhaus and Marie Pelletier, 6-3. At No. 3, Ella De Young and Allison Szalay secured the sweep with a 6-1 win over Liliana Holmberg and Melanie Gravdahl.
In singles, Gustavus carried its momentum through all six flights, winning each match in straight sets. Karina Elvestrom defeated Faith Simon at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Kaya De Bruijn followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Liliana Holmberg at No. 2. At No. 3, Molly Austin earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Marie Pelletier.
Noor Omar posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ashley King at No. 4 singles, while Ella De Young defeated Ryanna Steinhaus, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5. Lanie Davis completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Melanie Gravdahl at No. 6.
The Wildcats face the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, April 18 in Collegeville, Minnesota on the campus of Saint Johns University.
