ARDEN HILLS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team fell to the No. 38 ranked Bethel University Royals on Wednesday battling throughout both doubles and singles play. The loss moves St. Kate's to 11-4, with a conference record of 4-2.
In doubles action, St. Kate's took the early advantage by claiming two of the three matches. The pairing of
Ryanna Steinhaus and
Marie Pelletier took the No. 2 match 6-1 before
Melanie Gravdahl and
Liliana Holmberg earned a hard-fought 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Wildcats picked up a strong victory in singles play at No. 5 as Steinhaus battled to a 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory. Bethel secured the overall win by taking the remaining five singles matches. At No. 2 Holmberg pushed to three sets before falling 1-6, 6-4, 6-10. Pelletier dropped a 2-6, 1-6 decision at No. 3, while
Ashley King fell in a tight match at No. 4, 6-3, 0-6, 9-11. At No. 1,
Faith Simon was edged out 6-1, 6-1 and at No. 6, Gravdahl was defeated 6-0, 6-0.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, April 11 hosting Macalester at 9 am on St. Kate's campus.
