ORLANDO, Fla. -- The St. Catherine University tennis team defeated Carthage College 4-3 on Wednesday morning at Sanlando Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida. The win advances the Wildcats to a 7-3 record and one more match schedules for their spring break trip.
St. Kate's set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The top due of
Faith Simon and
Ashley King led the way with a 7-5 victory, while
Marie Pelletier and
Ryanna Steinhaus dominated the No. 2 match 6-1.
Melanie Gravdahl and Lillana Holmberg completed the sweep with another 7-5 win.
At No. 1 singles, Simon continued her strong day with a decisive 6-2, 6-0 win. King was equally as dominant at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat and Steinhaus secured the clinching point at No. 5 with a hard fought 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win.
Carthage picked up the other three singles victories, including a tight battle at No. 2 where Holmberg fell in straight sets featuring a first-set tiebreaker.
St. Kate's final spring break match is Thursday facing Sweet Briar College at the Club of Cocoa Beach in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
