ORLANDO, Fla. — The St. Catherine University women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Tuesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus, defeating Transylvania University 7-0 in a neutral-site matchup.
After dropping the first doubles match of the afternoon, the Wildcats quickly regained momentum by claiming the next two doubles flights to secure the doubles point. The duo of Ryanna Steinhaus and Marie Pelletier earned a 7–5 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Liliana Holmberg and Melanie Gravdahl sealed the point with a 6–3 win at No. 3.
St. Catherine carried that momentum into singles play, sweeping all six matches to put the contest out of reach.
Faith Simon battled through the most competitive match of the day at No. 1 singles. After splitting the first two sets, Simon edged Maddy Williams in a decisive super tiebreak, winning 4–6, 6–3, 10–7.
The Wildcats received strong performances throughout the lineup. Liliana Holmberg earned a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Ellie Held 6–4, 7–5. Marie Pelletier rallied from a first-set tiebreak loss to defeat Lilly Hartman 6–7(5), 6–4, 10–4 at No. 3 singles.
St. Catherine also secured convincing wins in the lower half of the lineup. Ashley King cruised to a 6–1, 6–1 victory at No. 4 singles, Ryanna Steinhaus posted a 6–1, 6–1 win at No. 5, and Melanie Gravdahl completed the sweep with a 6–2, 6–0 victory at No. 6.
With the win, the Wildcats improve to 6–3 overall, while Transylvania moves to 4–3 on the season. St. Kate's faces Carthage College on Wednesday in Orlando, Florida at Sanlando Park.
