MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University team improved to 3-1 with a commanding 7-0 win over Martin Luther College on Friday at Baseline Tennis Center.
St. Catherine seized early momentum in doubles play, sweeping all three courts,
Ryanna Steinhaus and
Marie Pelletier struck first with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles, followed by a 6-1 victory from
Liliana Holmberg and
Melanie Gravdahl at No. 3.
Faith Simon and
Ashley King capped the doubles sweep with a 6-2 decision at the top flight.
Singles competition wa equally dominant. King was first off the court at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Pelletier (No. 3) posted a 6-0, 6-3 win and Holmberg (No. 2) posted 6-0, 6-0 shutout to extend the lead. Steinhaus added another 6-0 6-0 victory at No. 5 and Gravdahl matched the scoreline at No. 6.
At the top of the lineup, Simon closed out the match with a strong 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
St. Kate's competes again Saturday at Baseline hosting the University of Minnesota Morris at 4:30 pm.
