ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University team cruised past Lawrence University 7-2 on Friday evening at Drake Arena. The dominant win improves the Wildcats to 7-5 on the season.
St. Kate's set the tone right away with a three-goal first period powered by Ana Meyers. Myers scored two power-play goals before completing the hat trick at 18:11 for the game winner. St. Kate's held the momentum, adding 19 shots to the Vikings' just two.
Lawrence made a push in the second, cutting into the lead with a power play goal at 6:04, followed by another at 10:31. Myers responded 20 seconds later to restore the two-goal cushion headed into the final frame with help from
Michelle Smith and
Sara Cooney.
In the third, the Wildcats closed out the game with three more goals, including one from Smith at 3:05, her first of the season off a pass from Myers.
Rhiannon Ashworth buried an empty-netter at 18:05 off a pass from
Jaden Kozak, and Myers capped her career night with an unassisted goal at 18:14.
St. Kate's will host the Vikings again on Saturday at Drake Arena with the game scheduled for 1 pm.
