ST. PAUL, Minn. -- St. Catherine closed out a weekend series sweep with a 2-0 victory over Lawrence on Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.
After a scoreless first period, the Wildcats took control in the second and leaned on strong defense and steady goal tending to finish the job.
The breakthrough came at 2:54 in the second period, when
Michelle Smith opened scoring at even strength finishing a play set up by
Ana Myers and
Samantha Bogen. Later in the period, the Wildcats capitalized on the power play. Bogen doubled the lead at 10:10, converting assists from
Emma Keith and
Isabella Brady to make it 2-0.
St. Kate's limited the Lawrence to just ten shots in 60 minutes with
Anna Friendshuh getting her first shutout win of her senior season. The Wildcats edged out the Vikings 32-10 in shots on top of blocking 12 shots, six of which were from Brady.
St. Kate's returns to MIAC play next Friday as the College of Saint Benedict comes to Drake Arena for game one of the conference series.
