MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team earned its first conference win with an 81-70 road win over Augsburg on Wednesday. The MIAC victory puts the team at 1-4 and improves the overall season record to 6-6.
St. Kate's opened the game with a 20-15 lead after the first quarter before pushing the margin to 39-31 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Wildcats extended the lead again, outscoring the Auggies 17-13 in the third to take a 56-44 advantage with one quarter remaining. Augsburg made a push in the fourth, but St. Kate's answered at the charity line to seal the win.
Hattie Fox led with 23 points, shooting a perfect 10 for 10 from the free throw line, plus four assists and two steals.
Lily Peper added a season-best 17 points, and
Jordyn Peed chipped in 14, knocking down two three-pointers.
Kate Flicek finished with ten points off the bench, followed by
Elle Covey contributing nine with five boards and two blocks.
St. Kate's shot 53 percent from the field and 20 for 2 at the line.
The Wildcats return to
Butler Center on Saturday, January 10, hosting Gustavus Adolphus at 1 pm.
