ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The St. Catherine University basketball team came up short against the Carleton College Knights on Wednesday at the
Butler Center falling 64-61. The loss lands St. Kate's at 2-7 in MIAC play and 7-9 overall with nine regular season contests remaining.
The Wildcats trailed 16-9 after the first quarter, then settled in offensively to cut into the deficit before halftime. Coming out of the break, St. Kate's delivered its best run of the run outscoring Carleton 21-14 in the third and briefly pulling in front during a back and forth frame.
Elle Covey led the way with a career best 17 points with four boards, one block and one steal.
Jordyn Peed was just behind with 15 points and four steals while
Hattie Fox chipped in 13 points, including a pair of threes and also grabbing six rebounds.
Defensivley, St. Catherine created opportunities forcing 16 turnovers with 12 steals.
Kristen Oberle hit two threes and finished with five points, three steals and an assist and
Lily Peper provided a team high seven rebounds with three steals and a block. The Wildcats staying within one possession in the final minute, but the comeback came up short at the buzzer.
St. Kate's is home again on Saturday, January 24 for a 1 pm MIAC game against Macalester College.
